Interested in owning a Peter Waddell original?
Peter Waddell creates images of places in history. He brings life to the site by showing the men
and women who designed and inhabited the homes, as well as the workers and servants who were an equally
important part of the story. His work enables guardians of historic sites to transport their visitors to
earlier times and places.
To this challenge, Peter Waddell brings almost twenty-five years experience as both practitioner and
teacher of his art, first in his native New Zealand, and over the last eight years in his adopted
country, the United States. He has "restored" gardens to their original design and "removed" later
furnishings to disclose a room's original character.
Peter Waddell's paintings both educate and entertain. Their historical authenticity is based upon both
written accounts of the period, and material evidence. Added to this is the artist's informed creativity
with particular expertise in depicting light on surfaces, drapery and furniture. His work includes
collaborative projects with Mount Vernon, the U.S. Capitol, and the Octagon, the Museum of the American
Architectural Foundation.
